A Primer On Collagen And Fillers

Not Your Mom’s Collagen Fillers!

While a filler can be the old type of collagen widely used since the 80′s, the newer fillers should be considered first because they build better and last longer. From filling tiny indentations to building back lost facial volume, they can make you look younger, and do it faster, than most anything else. They are truely the magic potion of aging.

Evolence®, Restylane®, Perlane®,  Juvederm®

New fillers have many more advantages, not the least of which is the fact they last much longer. Some popular fillers now on the market are Evolence®, Restylane®, Perlane®,  Juvederm®, and Sculptura® with new ones coming out as fast as they can get through the governments approval process.

Filler’s can…

  • Enhance a specific area, like your lips
  • Make subtle, yet important changes to increase facial volume
  • Erase those tiny lines around the mouth or eyes
  • Eliminate creases in the eyebrow area
  • Make wrinkles disappear

Using The Correct Filler For You

Whenever you talk to someone about fillers, please remember  the skill of the practitioner with that filler is the single most important part of the equation. An improperly placed filler will show a bulge or line, and can even show as an enhanced blue area if improperly placed.Filler’s can have beautifully predictable results when injected properly. They also must be apropriate for your  problem. Each product has a different formulation, meaning they do slightly different things and have varied molecule size. Some will even  fill a problem area and at the same time increase your body’s collagen growth. This can give a longer lasting result. I evaluate each person carefully before recommending a filler. The position of the problem area, and its depth into the facial structure are only a couple of the things considered along with muscle tone, speed of results, and many other factors.

A Primer On Collagen And Fillers

From Dr. Bonnie:

When first meeting, my patients tell me they want to look younger, and we talk about their concerns.  For most its a sense of not looking as “fresh” as they used to.  As we continue to talk, I find many are under incredible stress,  and it’s aging them beyond their real years.  They’re aware of the pressure, and maybe even of the toll it’s taking. Unfortunately, its not easy to figure out how to get off this energy draining treadmill that’s  sabotaging their chance to look great.

I ‘ve discovered three common problems that almost all of these patients share, and even went so far as to prepare three separate videos, which have become  my “prescriptions”.  Each deals with a different problem and shows step-by-step how to eliminate them from your life.

I would love to share them with you, and there is no charge. The first is titled “The Dirty Little Secret of Multi-Tasking” and as the title may hint, Multi-Tasking is not helping us save time nor get things done faster.

You will also begin receiving My Beauty Tip of The Week every Friday. In it I discuss things just like in the article above and can answer your questions, should you want to ask. It’s also free and you can unsubscribe at any time.

I look forward to hearing from you.

  • Yesterday I had my labials filled with something called “Hydrelle”. The plastic surgeon is a friend of mine so it was free because the product was new. However now I feel like my face is huge and fat. How long will this last?

    • Charlotte,

Thanks so much for commenting. The good news about any injected hyaluronic acid is that it can be erased with an enzyme called hyaluronidase. Injected in the same area as the treatment, the enzyme begins to work immediately to breakdown the injected product. Even though we all have hyaluronic acid in our skin (liquid), it does not affect that, only the product. Then, you are back to where you started.

But.. before you do that, take a look at your before and after photos. I take them every time I do a treatment, and I am sure your provider did also. If the puffiness you feel is not really obvious (other than filling the folds) then you may just need a day or so to adjust to the feeling under your skin of having them filled. It may also just be a bit of under-the skin bruising. If, after looking at the photos, you really are too puffy, just have some hyaluronidase injected. Below I have noted some information for you on Hydrelle.

Hydrelle is the newest hyaluronic acid (HA) on the market and boasts a higher concentration of HA and a .3% lidocaine to make the treatment more comfortable. The company warns against over injection and states to use only .5cc per nasolabial fold (the lines from the corner of the nose down toward the mouth). It is not meant for lips, perioral rhytids (vertical lip lines), infraorbital rims (around the eyes), glabella (forehead between the eyes), temple areas, areas with thin skin or fine wrinkles. It is a robust product.

      Thanks again for your comment,

      Bonnie
